After how many
years of living in your good home, you think that you know the house already
very well. But according to a marketing survey, only 7 out of 10 household
members know how to take care of the outdoor furniture cushions that has been
there for a long time already. True enough, these furniture outdoor cushions
are very hard to take care of especially that they need extra care such as
regular cleaning and changing.
In case you
don’t know, these outdoor furniture cushions are sewn either by hand if they
are custom-made cushions or are mass produced with the aid of the machine.
These are what you see on the chair’s seat out on your patio or porch.
There are a lot
of fabrics that could be used for the outdoor furniture cushions that you sit
upon. These fabrics depend on the material that you want to your cushions to
have. One type is cotton, and this is common among houses because of its
durability and cheap price. However, polyester is cheaper than cotton and is
often found in middle to low class income families. There is also nylon and
silk but these are subject to rot under the sun and you wouldn’t want to have a
problem on your furniture outdoor cushion.
The enemies of
outdoor furniture cushions are dust, moisture, stains and mildew. Dust
accumulates as times passes especially that these cushions are at placed in the
outdoors. Some dust particles do not come off easily with a little pat. You
have to thoroughly clean your cushions with soap and water. Moisture, on the
other hand, creates water stains that form little puddle like stamps on the
fabric. Moisture may come from the air or from rain that gets into the cushion.
Stains are made out of man’s mistakes. These cannot be avoided especially if a
kid is around your house. Expect a ton of stain types such as chocolate, juice,
blood and the likes. Lastly, mildew is a type of bacteria that forms because of
prolonged storage and being stagnant. That is why it is advisable to change
your cushions every now and then.
Two of the most
common outdoor furniture cushions are hinged cushions and a bench cushion.
Hinged cushions are used for single chairs and usually have a thick filling for
its cushion. A bench cushion on the other hand is longer but thinner. When it
comes to design, you can always have you way especially if you plan on making
your outdoor furniture cushions complements on your existing patio furniture
set.
